1. You have a potion of your closet that’s strictly tailor-maid clothing.

2. You’re automatically hip to all the inside jokes with all other Africans.

3. You and your other African friends debate who’s parents really “graduated at the top of their class.”

4. Reminiscing about being ruthless and weddings,anniversaries, and birthday parties, in attempts to be “sprayed.”

5. Making your your non-African friends laugh with imitations of your parents.

6. When Kanye West signed D’Banj to G.O.O.D. M.U.S.I.C. you actually knew who he was.

7. Getting majour whenever “that one aunty/uncle from [insert random west bubble fuck location here]” comes to visit.

8. Being able to talk about people around you without them understanding you.

9. Explaining to people why you have 9,999,999,999 middle names.

10. J O L L O F R I C E . 

11. Watching your African Modaa attempt to sing “Nicki Minaj - Superbass” when it comes on the radio.

12. Don’t Jealous Me (Don’t kid yourself.. you know at one point in your African life you religiously watched his videos.)

13. Hiding your boyfriends/girlfriends from your parents in middle school… shit and freshman year.. and half of sophomore… or in some cases till college

14. Being given “many happy returns of the day,” “long life,” and “prosperity” for every birthday. (Eh.. it’s not really cool but you laugh about it in the long run.)

15. Explaining to your parents exactly WHY you won’t, under any circumstances, create a facebook page.

16. Any achievement birthday, graduation, or anything else considered majour, results in multiple white envelopes filled with cashhhhhhh.

17. Being an African teenager.
